OOM

What does OOM stand for in gaming?

Out of mana

When your teammate in an MMORPG or MOBA says they're OOM, it means they're "out of mana." You're most likely to encounter this acronym while playing World of Warcraft (WoW) or League of Legends (LoL), two games in which activating special abilities often costs mana.

What is mana?

Mana, also known as MP, is a resource characters possess and use to activate special abilities, such as AoE attacks, healing spells, buffs, and debuffs. Characters typically have a finite amount of mana, which regenerates over time but can be depleted if the character uses too many abilities in quick succession.

Thus, a player may run OOM at an inopportune moment, such as when you need a healing spell or a crucial last hit on an opposing player. Players who are OOM can still make basic attacks and activate abilities that don't require mana. However, if you need a player who is OOM to activate their ult or heal you, you're out of luck.
