LDL

What does LDL stand for?

Low-density lipoprotein

An acronym that represents the low-density of lipoproteins that are proteins that carry cholesterol through a person's bloodstream.

HDL cholesterol is a sign of good cholesterol, whereas LDL cholesterol is considered bad cholesterol. High-density lipoproteins pick up excess cholesterol in your blood and take it to the liver to be broken down. Low-density lipoproteins deliver cholesterol to different organs and tissues and when the count is increased, can lead to excess cholesterol and narrow blood vessels that block blood flow.

Example

I have a low count of LDL cholesterol, which will probably help lower my risk of heart disease
