2. What does HoT stand for in gaming?

Heal over time

In MMORPGs, MOBAs, and other games that include healing spells and abilities, HoT stands for "heal over time." HoT abilities heal one or more characters repeatedly over a period of time. For example, a HoT spell might heal a character 30 HP per five seconds, for a period of a minute. (Which if you're doing the math, is a total of 360 HP of healing.)

Often, a party or team's healer will cast a HoT spell just as a group starts a big battle, so the group will regenerate health as they fight. Keeping these spells active can often mean the difference between winning a battle or getting TPK'd.

Example
