HON

Hon is short for "honey," which is a term of affection SOs sometimes use for one another. When someone calls their partner hon, it means they think their partner is sweet (as honey, obvs).

Those who are in wub with their partner may also abbreviate honey as hun. Hon, hun, and honey are part of a tradition of cutesy couples talk that dates back centuries, with honey's first recorded use as a term of endearment appearing in the 14th century.

However, when used by someone who is not your significant other, hon may actually be a term of condescension. For example, those living in the Southern United States sometimes call especially stupid or naive people hon. In these instances, hon means "sweet but clueless."

Gamers use HoN to stand for "Heroes of Newerth." This discontinued MOBA was released in May 2010 and shuttered in June 2022.

In HoN, two teams of heroes, the Legion and the Hellbourne, battle for control of a map. Like most MOBAs, HoN's design was heavily influenced by the Warcraft III mod Defense of the Ancients (DotA)

In 2011, HoN's original developer, S2 Games, transitioned the game to a F2P model. In 2015, Singaporean developer Garena purchased HoN and passed development duties to FrostBurn Studios. FrostBurn developed HoN until it went offline on June 20, 2022.
