CCR

What does CCR stand for?

Creedence Clearwater Revival

Fans of Southern-style rock use CCR to refer to the band Credence Clearwater Revival. Originally known by a couple other names, the band settled on CCR in 1967.

CCR's most famous lineup consisted of lead vocalist and guitarist John Fogerty, rhythm guitarist Tom Fogerty, bassist Stu Cook, and drummer Doug Clifford. Some of the band's best-known songs include:

  • Bad Moon Rising
  • Fortunate Son
  • Who'll Stop the Rain
  • Born on the Bayou
  • Proud Mary

In 1972, CCR split up as a result of legal and artistic disagreements. John Fogerty now tours as a solo act, while Stu Cook and Doug Clifford formed a "cover" band named Creedence Clearwater Revisited (which is not what most people are referring to when they use the CCR acronym).
