What does alley oop mean?

A pass to a teammate who puts the ball in the basket

A basketball term that refers to when a player passes the ball to a teammate near the rim who then catches the ball in mid air and puts it in the basket; commonly involves the player catching the ball and dunking it in for 2 points while also getting on the highlight reel.
